ReNuMe is an exercise tool specifically designed by physiotherapists for those users recovering from chronic diseases and the over 50 age group. It is the first exercise App that creates a program specifically for YOU. Your program is based on your condition and fitness level and works around your chronic conditions or injuries. Your program can be modified at any time if a particular exercise causes pain or discomfort. ReNuMe can be used whether you are active or inactive and in your home or a gym.
Chronic conditions are estimated to affect more than 50% of the Australian population. Exercise has a proven, positive impact on these conditions and can reverse the negative influences of diabetes, heart disease, cancer and many others. It also improves balance, which deteriorates as we age and can lead to falls and complicating injuries. Exercise also has a significant mental health benefit.
Most people over 50 do not want to go to a ‘community gym’. Our research of more than 300 individuals in this age group has exclusively indicated they are intimidated by the gym and feel out of place. Additionally, many people live in areas not supported by suitable exercise facilities.
With physical fitness providing the key to overall health, longevity and quality of life, the main purpose of the RENUME App is to provide guided and appropriate exercise regiments to the aged, more vulnerable, and isolated population. By having the format being an on-line based medium with a price point less than a cup of coffee per week, access and affordability will no longer be impediments for participation. Users will benefit by a higher ability to fight chronic conditions, improve balance, reduce sedentary behaviour, combat dementia, reduce hospital admissions and lower health care costs. Notably, an improved overall level of fitness will lower complications of surgery and significantly improve recovery and survival rates.
From ReNuMe’s leading physiotherapist:
“As a Physiotherapist, I deal with a large population of clients over 50. Many suffer from cancer or other chronic diseases or are just searching for ways to improve their mobility and quality of life.
Through this work, I have seen remarkable improvements in these individuals to meet their challenges in ways they could not contemplate before the exercise programs began. Many are capable of handling surgeries and necessary treatments at unpredicted levels by direct accounts of their treating doctors.
Most clients clearly admit the positive benefits obtained by being involved in these regiments. However, such programs are currently limited to the clients capable of traveling to our location, and unfortunately represent a small fraction of the aged population.
By creating an App capable of replicating such programs and making it easily available, many positive impacts will be realised. Users will gain a higher level of physical confidence due to improvements in mobility, balance and physical conditioning. This will encourage social interaction with friends and family and naturally carry into the local communities and business establishments. Additionally, the burden on the health care system will be positively impacted in the most cost-effective way possible.”
